Townsville consumers encouraged not to hide from their bills

Worried about an electricity bill or a consumer rights issue and not sure how resolve it?

Come along to our Bring Your Bills Day on Wednesday 2 June 2021 from 10am to 2pm for help with your electricity, advice on how to tackle your financial and legal issues and to find out more about consumer rights, complaints and scams.

This free event, hosted by the Energy and Water Ombudsman Queensland (EWOQ) in partnership with Ergon Energy Retail, the Office of Fair Trading, Telstra, Townsville Community Law and the Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network (ICAN) gives you the chance to speak to the experts about your needs.

Queensland’s Energy and Water Ombudsman Jane Pires said the event will be a one-stop-shop for those with questions about their energy or phone bills and other consumer issues that might be causing them stress.

“We’re encouraging people not to hide from their bills, so Bring Your Bills Townsville is a casual, drop in event where you can get your questions answered,” Ms Pires said.

“As well as talking to our team about their energy issues or concerns, visitors can speak directly with Ergon Energy Retail about their electricity bill and Telstra about their phone and internet services.

“Team members from the Office of Fair Trading will also be available to address electricity billing issues for residents living in an embedded network such as an apartment, caravan park or retirement village, as well as solar installation issues and questions about bulk hot water bills or bottled LPG. They can also help with general advice on consumer rights, complaints and scams.”

For those looking for financial assistance, Townsville Community Law will be available with information on financial protections, particularly for seniors, and ICAN will be on hand with consumer education and financial counselling services for Indigenous consumers.

“We look forward to meeting with Townsville residents to talk about problems with their bills and helping them feel informed about their financial issues.”
